A collection of writing by Erasmus Hall High School Students in Brooklyn, including a six-page essay by the 18 year old Bernard Malamud “Life – From Behind a Counter”.

“Life – From Behind a Counter” by Bernard Malamud is apparently an account of his experiences as a clerk in his father’s store, for which Malamud won second prize.

Conceivably this is Malamud’s first appearance between hard covers, his first short stories were published in 1943.

Published by New York & Pittsburgh: Scholastic Publishing Company, 1932
Other noted high school writers mentioned but not published in the book include Jean Stafford and George Marion O’Donnell.
